The Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the United States of America and Canada has the honor to inform that in response to the latest developments of the COVID-19 outbreak around the world, the Government of the Lao PDR will further implement the visa measures, beyond those already in place, to reduce the risk of the virus outbreak to the Lao PDR as follows:

  1. Suspend issuing visa on arrivals for all nationals.
  2. Suspend issuing Tourist Visa at the Lao Oversea Diplomatic Missions.
  3. Suspend issuing e-Visa.
  4. Suspend practicing of visa exemption for nationals of ASEAN countries and nationals of countries that signed agreement on visa exemption both unilateral and bilateral with the Lao PDR (excluding holders of diplomatic and official passports).
  5. Issue visas for visitors who intended to visit the Lao PDR with non tourist purposes only. Visitors will have to submit requisite information on their health and related documents to the Lao diplomatic missions in the country they are resident for approval before the intended date of travel. Visitors who arrive in the Lao PDR without the necessary approval will be denied entry into the country. The above mentioned measures shall enter into force beginning from 00 hour of March 20 to 00 hour of April 20, 2020.

The Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic avails itself of this opportunity to renew the assurances of its highest consideration.

H.E. Ambassador Khamphan Anlavan congratulated H.E. Peter M. Hamond appointed as new US Ambassador to Laos

On January 15, 2020 H.E Khamphan Anlavan, Ambassador of the Lao PDR to the United States had witnessed and joined the Swearing-in Ceremony of H.E. Peter M. Haymond, as a new Ambassador of the United States to the Lao PDR, held in the Benjamin Franklin Room, U.S. Department of State. In such important occasion, H.E. Khamphan Anlavan has congratulated Ambassador Haymond for his appointment as new Ambassador to the Lao PDR who will serve the important role in promoting the existing good relations and cooperation between the two countries. H.E. Haymond expressed his gratitude and profound thanks to the Government of the United States for entrusted him to continuing and deepening the relations and cooperation between Laos and USA in both politic and economic. H.E. Haymond also emphasized that the duty waiting for him in Laos is very challenging, but he promised to do his best to bring the prosperity and mutual benefit to the peoples of both countries. H.E. Haymond is expected to depart the United States to Laos by the end of January 2020.

Ambassador Khamphan Anlavan presents credentials to President Trump. Khamphan Anlavan is the new Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the United States of America. In discussion with President Trump, Ambassador Anlavan said Laos continues to enjoy steady progress in human and economic development. Citing the long, friendly and harmonious ties between Laos and the United States as the platform for mutually beneficial bilateral relations, the ambassador expressed optimism for expanded engagement between the two countries.
